Thank you to all of you that could make it last week. This was the first Youth Presentation Evening we have held at Holt RFC and it was great to see so many of the players and their families from all the youth age groups.
Holt RFC under 15s. What a bunch... |
We also awarded the Golden Vosene Award to the player who spent more time on a Sunday morning washing his hair than actually training or playing. This award should have gone to Sam Crafer but due to his absence, no doubt just having an extra evening rinse it was presented to Matti Schonewald. It was suggested that he shared the bottle with Sam and perhaps they could have joint hair-washing sessions to save on water.
The Golden Turd is a very prestigious award and is for doing something particularly daft or dropping a real stinker at some point in the season. This is always a difficult award to give as there are so many players that could lift the trophy. However, it was decided quite unanimously that Alexander Ghanbouri should be the proud wearer of this year's award after having being told, in no uncertain terms, on leaving the club one Sunday 'Don't get injured..' he broke his collar bone the following Tuesday at Leicester Academy training, the week before the Norfolk Cup Final. A worthy winner.
The Player's Player award is, as the name states, voted by the players and although we are lucky to have exceptional athletes in our age group, Harry Simmons has once again stood out as an exceptional player and someone who can change a game. Aside from playing for Holt, Harry also takes part in the Leicester Tigers development scheme, along with other members of the squad and has recently captained Leicester u15s against Gloucester and was selected to play against Worcester at the end of the season.
Harry was also nominated as Holt RFC's BMW Young Player Of The Season. Harry will receive a signed certificate from Stuart Lancaster and will be entered into a prize draw to win hospitality tickets to England v Barbarians at Twickenham in May. Good luck Harry.
The Most Improved Player award this year is decided by the coaches and as usual this is a difficult award to decide on as each year several players come into their own and improve in many different ways. This year the award goes to Dean Stolworthy. Relatively new to the game, he has tried out several positions and this year has learnt a new one, as Hooker, a position he has really got stuck into. He never complains, is fit and determined and was the stand out player in the last game of the season against Diss. More of the same again next year please Dean.
